Chevron Fabric

A pattern that dates back to 1800 BC, the Chevron print is becoming one of the most popular designs of today. Whether it is simple, or like the Nebaha Chevron pillow shown at the left, the chevron print can conform to any design scheme.

The simple inverted  V-shape was initially intended to show rank in military or police, but then the design was found in the palace of Knossos on Crete (modern day Greece). It became clear that this simple pattern has deep meaning and symbolism in many cultures.

F. Schumacher has a huge collection of beautiful chevron fabrics and wallpapers. As you can see from the photos, there are countless applications for these fabrics.

There are just so many fun ways to play with these patterns. Check out our Pinterest here to see what else we have come up with!

Silk Flower Arrangements

Alright, this is a question that I debated for a very long time. Faux flowers...fabulous or faux pas?

It seems like a general rule in the world of design and fashion is "faux=faux pas". This is rarely the case when it comes to silk flower arrangements. Have you ever sat down at a restaurant and touched the flowers on the table just to reaffirm your assumption that they are indeed plastic? I have too. Have you ever gone into a luxuriously designed home and done that? Probably not. You will be amazed at how popular these flowers are becoming. They are so realistic, even down to the crystal clear solid water they sit in.

Whether you are going for the girly chic look or rustic and old-fashioned, flowers can always add a splash of color and comfort to your home. And the great thing is, you'll have them forever! No need to worry about allergies, rotten smells, or shedding petals!

Industrial Metal Dining Chair

Did you notice how the industrial-chic look is so in nowadays? Well, it's been in for the last few years now, but we just got around to writing about it.  It's not easy to run a business and keep up with a blog, you know.

Anyway, there is an interesting article in the NY Times about the firm that started this trend, you can read it here.

We like mixing it up a little with something soft to make it warmer and cozier, like the office/dining combination shown below.

The industrial metal dining chair can be found here.

Turquoise Garden Stool

Did you see the December issue from Lonny?  If not, take a look at it. It's a bit thin this month, as most design magazines tend to be this time of year, but it has some beautiful features.

One of the items that caught our eyes is this turquoise garden stool.  This item happens to be our best seller and you can find it here.  If you do use it on hardwood floor, be sure to put a pad underneath it as these have rough ceramic underneath and it might scratch your floor.

Red and Pink Geometric Fabric Sofa

We can't take our eyes off this image.  Mainly because the dog is so cute, but the second reason is that the sofa is so adorable. So often we do sofas in neutral colors because it's safe, but we think this fabric is great for a settee or an accent chair.

The pattern also comes in other colorways but this one is our absolutely favorites.

Coffee Table Trays

Well, one of our FAVORITE designers was on the Dr. Oz show the other day with a handful of great organizational ideas. Just hearing his name is like Christmas to any design inspired individual...its Nate Berkus of course!

His work is breathtaking as always, but one thing that really stood out to us was the idea of using coffee table trays to organize remotes, magazines, keys, you get the idea. Not only do they add some flair to the living room, but it also helps eliminate the clutter that seems to accumulate.

Although our homes may not look like the Nate Berkus designs below, there is always room for improvement. Check out our collection of trays!

Here are some of the trays we offer!

Mirrored Nesting Tables

We love the look of mirrored furniture. There's something very sexy and glamorous about them.

When we do use them, we do it sparingly--you don't want to put mirrored furniture everywhere as it becomes an overkill.

If you like this fabric, it is by Celerie Kemble for F Schumacher.  The pattern is called Hothouse Flowers color mineral.

Colorful Garden Stools

It seems like every decorating magazine we open nowadays has some sort of ceramic garden stools in them.  Most often you see them as decorative items or side tables than sitting stools.

We like it because it's versatile-you can use it indoor or outdoor.   It can be used as extra seating when you need it, and most of all--it's an inexpensive way to add some colors to a room.

See below for some examples.  All of the garden stools shown below can be found in our garden stool section

Making your home warm and cozy with home accessories.

We're loving the feature in Lonny Magazine on Mark D Sikes's home.  Where did this guy come  from? How come he's not on Bravo already?

We love, love his house.  Have you seen it?  If you haven't, check it out here.  As you can see, the prevalent theme here is "accessorize". It makes all the difference in the world!

To see some of the home accessories similiar to the ones featured here, check out our chinoiserie home accent section.

Barry Dixon Home Accessories

Barry Dixon's home accessory collection for Arteriors may be one of our absolute favorites. He can be considered one of the masters of Southern design style. His philosophy is very simple, allowing him to be daringly creative within certain guidelines. Dixon believes that the integrity of good design is determined by what is "appropriate." Considering architecture, transition, comfort, and quality in all of his work has made him one of the most sought after designer in the industry.

Spending his childhood abroad in places like India, South Africa, and French Polynesia gave Dixon a sense of global perspective. This solid base helped cultivate enough imagination and creativity for him to launch furniture lines, a fabric and rug collection, a book (which you can purchase here), and allow for continuous appearances on HGTV and Good Morning America. Dixon's home/office in the Virginia countryside allows him to stay focused on his work without getting carried away by the world of interior design. Many of his designs can be spotted in magazines such as Southern Accents, Veranda, House Beautiful, Metropolitan Home, and Traditional Home.  Click here to see a sample of his work.

The entire Barry Dixon Home Accessories collection is now available on our site. The pieces have a sense of balance and contrast that emanates not just a look, but a feeling as well. "These are the pieces that I needed, but couldn’t find, to bridge seemingly dissimilar styles, to link traditional and modern, and to relate period antiques to new purchases for my clients.” Bringing a sense of modernism to classic southern design isn’t an easy task, but Dixon never ceases to amaze us.
