Designer Spotlight: Martyn Lawrence Bullard

Martyn Lawrence Bullard Fabric has taken F Schumacher's collection to the next level. The bold patterns and vivid colors make his fabric stand out from the rest of the designers. His ability to capture the essence of certain cultures is unparalleled in the industry. His fabric collection for F Schumacher is flying off the shelves everywhere. Whether you are using the fabric for upholstery or pillows, it is impossible to go wrong with a Bullard design. Here is a little background on one of our favorite designers.
Martyn Lawrence Bullard is a common name in the world of “A-List” celebrities. This designer has a gold plated clientele list ranging from Sir Elton John and Cher to Kid Rock and Ozzy Osbourne. Needless to say, Bullard knows his stuff! With great attention to the delicacies in life, he brings glamour and luxury into every design. Bullard’s appeal has to do with his ability to manage proportion alongside color and pattern.
This British-born, Los Angeles-based designer has a tendency toward Orientalism with a splash of French and Spanish influence. His line of fabrics for F Schumacher is inspired by Martyn’s love for exotic travel and passion for luxurious materials as well as atypical colors and proportions. The collection contains exquisite prints, silks, and silk velvets, each one having a unique aesthetic. These patterns work great for decorative pillows or drapery.
Martyn Lawrence Bullard’s work (see his portfolio here) has appeared in over 70 publications and has landed him a hit TV show on Bravo titled, Million Dollar Decorators. He was named one of the world’s top 100 interior designers by Architectural Digest and has quite the accolades to show for it. Something that Martyn maintains, though, is a sense of humility and dedication to his work.
“A lot of my clients think I just swan around in designer outfits, wave the designer wand and it happens. It may look glamorous pulling up in a Mercedes and running around town shopping with a black American Express card, but the reality is that it’s grunt work. You know, sometimes I get down on my hands and knees to scrub the floors for these people. I may be in the top echelon of my career, but believe me, it’s still a service industry and I understand that.”

An unbeatable giant in the industry of interior design, I have a feeling that we’ll be seeing a lot of Bullard’s designs in the years to come.

Woods Wallpaper by Cole and Son

Well, winter is definitely upon us and nothing sounds better then curling up under a blanket with some hot cocoa and a movie. And what would complete that picture? An adorable rustic cabin of course! For the past few months, one wallpaper has been flying off the shelves at Inside Fabric. That is the Woods Wallpaper by Cole and Son. It comes in several different colorways, each one creating a warm and welcoming backdrop.

Cole and Son was founded over 100 years ago in north London and they continue to amaze us with their designs. The Woods wallpaper is definitely a best-seller because of the unique printing style used. Not only do we carry every colorway, we also have the entire Cole and Son wallpaper collection.

Worlds Away Furniture: Hollywood Regency Meets Mid Century Design

Worlds Away Furniture is definitely a top-selling vendor for us. No wonder! Look how cute their stuff is. Everything has such clean lines and can mix in whichever design style you are going for. Pictured above is the Big Sur Media Console. It may not look like much in the product picture, but look how it adds so much to this room. The limed oak is a great neutral tone that allows the green accents to really pop.

Worlds Away  started in Memphis, Tennessee in 1992 as an import company. They can be held responsible for revitalizing the "painted tole" look that was a hit in the '80s. Upon expanding their design boundaries, the lighting and hand-painted metal pieces began to really take flight as well as their mirrored furniture.

A beautiful combination of "Hollywood Regency" and mid-century design are the essence of Worlds Away. As you can see, all of their pieces fit beautifully into today's design trends as well as hinting at the past. The diversity and versatility in this line is remarkable, and everything is timeless.

The Natalie Dresser pictured on the left is a perfect example. The rounded front and beveled glass give this piece such class and elegance. With glass knobs and a beautiful finish, this is by far a favorite of mine.

Another great piece is the Quadro Nickel Coffee Table pictured below.

And of course, the Ava Buffet is always a classic.

We offer the entire Worlds Away line here at Inside Avenue! Click here to view the collection. Don't forget- free shipping on everything!

Candice Olson Fabric is by far one the cutest and most versatile lines that we carry. Candice Olson is quite the name in the design world, and here's a taste of why.
Canadian native, Candice Olson has become a popular name in the world of interior design. Her television series on HGTV, Divine Design has had continued success, premiering in 2003 in over 90 million homes. Olson’s new series, Candice Tells All, debuted on HGTV in January of 2011. This design all-star is known mostly for her affordable and practical style and helpful tips for DIY projects.
Candice began her career after graduating the School of Interior Design at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada with a focus on commercial and residential design. She has received many awards and accolades even before moving her career to the silver screen. Not only has she appeared on various TV networks, she writes a syndicated biweekly newspaper column that runs in over 400 US newspapers.
In 2005, Candice launched “The Candice Olson Collection,” an extensive line of home d├ęcor products including furniture, fabric, wallpaper, lighting, and bedding. This wonderfully functional collection makes Candice’s clean, refreshing style attainable. Her ability to consistently execute comfortable and modern interiors makes her one of our favorite designers. Her practical approach to decorating is a result of being a busy wife and mother of two.
Candice Olson Fabrics for Kravet proves to be not only luxurious and elegant, but also durable and trustworthy features of the modern family’s home. Overall, this woman knows how to design to fit the needs of the average family.
